Class 1

Welcome to Class One!

Class 1 is a mixed year class with both reception and year 1 pupils. The class is taught by Mrs Palmer and we have one teaching assistant and one apprentice all day throughout the whole week. Mrs Culver teaches on a Friday whilst Mrs Palmer conducts forest school sessions for the rest of the school.

Our Autumn term topic was Marvellous Me! where we focused on settling in the new starters and learning all about them and their interests. We looked at family trees and learnt about the importance of friendships with our peers. Our story focus was Little Red Riding which provided us with lots of different opportunities for writing. The children recreated the true story of Christmas and performed our nativity outside with a real baby Jesus and live animals.

Our Spring term topic is People Who Help Us where we will be looking at all those careers that have a focus on supporting others. This will help us to create a fact file for a certain career. The ‘Supertato’ stories will inspire us to create our own vegetable villains and help us design and build a trap for the evil pea!

We are very lucky to have been given the opportunity to have gymnastics sessions at Nateby Gym this half term as part of our PE curriculum, which will be an exciting new adventure for many of the pupils!

Our Summer term topic is Animals, animals everywhere! We will be looking at stories which include animals around the world and their habitats. This will help us create a story setting and information text. Our trip to the zoo will enhance our learning about animals. We will be growing a variety of plants in science and building our own version of Noah’s Ark when out for Forest School.

We are lucky to have coaches from Myerscough College coming to run football sessions as part of PE and have been invited to take part in a dance festival at Fleetwood in June.
